2018 Applied Energy Summer School
Call for the Summer School
Energy, Emissions, and Water in Global Cities
July 22-31, 2018, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China
Target Aims
Applied Energy Summer School (AEss) aims to build an academic exchange platform for young scholars and experts by providing training courses, teamwork, and factory visits. It includes:
- Through face-to-face communication, promote cooperation, innovation, and interdisciplinary exchange
- Explore the connections between different energy system elements and develop a systems integration framework to solve complex problems collaboratively
- Shape the future of young people through interaction with editors, entrepreneurs, product manufacturers, decision makers, and investors
Following the summer school held in 2017 at Nanjing Normal University, the Applied Energy Summer School will continue this program with the CEADs team at Tsinghua University in Beijing. CEADs brings together experts from the United Kingdom, the United States, and China, and is committed to the development and application of emission accounting methods in China. Providing accurate and up-to-date emission data is a responsibility of the academic community to policy stakeholders and the public.
Research Tasks
The research focus in 2018 is the energy-emissions-water relationship in global cities.
Cities are at the center of efforts to mitigate global climate change and implement low-carbon development strategies. The main objective of the summer school is to learn the methods for accounting for city-level carbon dioxide emission inventories in China. During the process, students will apply this method to calculate city carbon dioxide emissions. Combined with existing city-level water resource data, students will be able to further analyze the water-energy-emissions relationship. Multi-view data and visualization techniques will also be applied in the training.
Program Format
The summer school will combine academic lectures, career development modules, and team project design.
Target Audience
AEss invites highly motivated international students (final year undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students) and young scientists to join us. We also welcome lecturers for the summer school.
Experts from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, University of East Anglia, Tsinghua University, other well-known international research institutes, and prestigious presses such as Elsevier and Nature will guide students through the training courses, discussions, research, and project design.
