Introduction

During the first five days of the summer camp, lectures by leading scholars and methodology sessions gave participants a way to read widely. Beyond study and research, the CEADs Summer Camp also encouraged students to travel far. Practical activities were organized around three themes: red education, talent development, and the launch of a technology journey.

Red Boat Guidance: Jiaxing Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall

Day 6 of the summer camp fell on August 1, the 96th Army Day of the PRC. With strong support and coordination from the Zhejiang Provincial Government Beijing Office, the organizers of the 5th CEADs Summer Camp arranged for participants to visit the Jiaxing Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall to review the glorious history of the Party and revisit the spirit of the Red Boat.

The themed exhibition at Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall is titled Red Boat Sets Sail. Entering the preface hall, visitors see a model of the Red Boat echoing the bright Party emblem on the ceiling, symbolizing the Communist Party of China leading the Chinese nation toward great rejuvenation. The exhibition is divided into four sections: Saving the Nation from Peril, A New World Begins, A Glorious Journey, and Toward Rejuvenation. From the intense struggles of the Chinese people against feudal rule and foreign invasion, to the founding of the Communist Party of China, the key choices made by the Party at major historical moments, the historic leaps in economic and social development, and finally the vision of a new-era major country that leads the world and shapes the future, thousands of cultural relics, documents, sculptures, paintings, videos, and images are presented across 5,600 square meters. Together, they vividly show the great century-long voyage of the Red Boat of the Chinese revolution.

Through the visit and study, participants reviewed the century-long struggle of the Party and deeply understood that without the Communist Party there would be no New China, no socialism with Chinese characteristics, and no path for the Chinese people to stand up, grow prosperous, and become strong. By revisiting the great Red Boat spirit, they drew wisdom and strength from the century-long great struggle of the Party to continue moving forward, act as pioneers in solving new development challenges in the new era, write new chapters, and create a new future.

Talents Gather: Xiaoshan International Talent Club

Shortly after noon, three buses headed to the Xiaoshan International Talent Club, a place where talented people gather.

The Xiaoshan International Talent Club, led by the Organization Department and Talent Office of the Xiaoshan District Committee, is positioned as a multifunctional urban space for talent services and talent exchange. With THE ROUND as its branded service platform, it focuses on Class A-F talent across the city and helps overseas returnees, foreign nationals, overseas Chinese, young talent, and other groups integrate deeply into the international ecosystem of Xiaoshan.

The person in charge first introduced the service philosophy of the club. Through cooperation with Peking University, Zhejiang University, and other well-known universities to establish research institutes, the club continues to help optimize and upgrade the full chain of the talent innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. It provides high-quality resource platforms for highly educated elites and innovative enterprises at home and abroad, and works to build a comprehensive, people-oriented international talent service chain to support the rapid development of Xiaoshan.

Next, the club offered participants a variety of handicraft activities, including silk figurines, oil painting, bag making, and handmade coffee. There were also board game rooms, reading corners, an indoor cinema, and other spaces where participants could rest. During the group experience activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of intangible cultural heritage and coffee tasting, while also developing a more direct sense of science and technology innovation and talent exchange in Xiaoshan.

Exploring Technology: Visit to Alibaba Cloud

In the information age, cloud computing has become basic infrastructure for digital innovation across all industries. On the afternoon of August 2, CEADs Summer Camp participants visited Alibaba Cloud Valley Park to experience the remarkable power of cloud computing and learn about its applications and exploration in the dual-carbon field. After arriving at the park, participants first went to the lecture hall for a themed sharing session organized by the Alibaba Cloud Energy Consumption Cloud team.

The sharing session was chaired by Dr. Deng Zhu, an algorithm expert from Alibaba Cloud Energy Consumption Cloud. Through relevant short videos, Dr. Deng introduced the basic profile and development history of Alibaba Cloud, showing the Alibaba spirit of perseverance and steady progress.

Next, Dr. Xiao Lei, Director of Science and Technology Innovation for Alibaba Cloud Energy Consumption Cloud, gave a detailed introduction to the product system of Energy Consumption Cloud and the research support system behind it. Energy Expert is an application service product launched by Alibaba Cloud under the broader ESG and carbon neutrality strategy. It integrates carbon management and energy consumption optimization, using big data computing and artificial intelligence to account for carbon emissions, calculate carbon footprints, design carbon-reduction plans, and map carbon-neutrality pathways. It works with authoritative certification bodies to enable online certification and with financial institutions to provide green finance and carbon finance services. Energy Expert is also committed to bringing inclusive carbon initiatives into daily life, supporting people-centered low-carbon communities, low-carbon campuses, sustainable events, and other scenarios.

Chen Zhongjie, an algorithm expert at Alibaba Cloud Energy Consumption Cloud, introduced the application of AIGC technology in the dual-carbon cause. The session helped participants understand the role of large language models and visual AIGC technology in accumulating carbon data assets, enabling carbon knowledge Q&A, and cultivating low-carbon awareness. It also showed how AIGC technology can drive broader access to carbon knowledge and carbon technologies.

Participants actively interacted with the speakers and shared their views, gaining knowledge while also receiving carefully prepared souvenirs. Notably, each souvenir had a QR code on the back that recorded the full life-cycle carbon footprint of the product, calculated with support from the Alibaba Cloud Energy Expert team.

Afterward, everyone visited the Alibaba Cloud exhibition hall, where professional guides explained the technical details. The development of cloud computing infrastructure has changed the way computing power is obtained. Alibaba Cloud technologies such as DingTalk Yida, Tongyi Qianwen, Wuying Cloud, and Yitian 710 support national scientific and technological innovation and enterprise digital transformation, and have been applied across many industries.

Through this activity, participants learned about the latest developments in cloud computing technology and broadened their professional knowledge. Visiting the Energy Consumption Cloud platform also gave them a more direct understanding of the contributions and applications of cloud computing in energy consumption management. At the same time, they learned about the development history, business scope, and technical capabilities of Alibaba Cloud.

As participants expanded their knowledge, capabilities, and horizons, the summer camp also entered a crucial stage of data collection, in-depth analysis, and problem solving. We hope that participants will apply what they have learned in practice, inject vitality into the carbon accounting database, and support the dual-carbon goals.
