About the CEADs Summer Camp

About CEADs

Since the proposal of the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council have attached great importance to the development of a carbon accounting system and have clearly stated the need to establish a unified and standardized carbon accounting system. To support national carbon emission statistics and accounting work and comprehensively improve carbon accounting quality, the China Emissions Accounts and Datasets (CEADs) team, with support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology's international cooperation projects and key R&D programs, the UK Research Council, and others, has brought together nearly one thousand Chinese and international scholars to collect and verify data through a crowd-sourcing approach, jointly compiling multi-scale carbon accounting inventories and socioeconomic and trade databases covering China and other developing economies.

Summer Camp Review

Since 2016, the CEADs team has hosted four carbon accounting summer camps, which have received wide attention and strong support from policymakers, administrators, researchers, and young scholars in China and abroad, with growing influence in both policy and academic circles. The summer camp aims to provide outstanding young scholars with systematic training in carbon accounting methodology, practical guidelines, and case-based teaching through expert lectures and coursework, thereby building an academic platform for exchange, collaboration, and mutual progress in carbon accounting.

Highlights from Previous Group Activities

2023 Summer Camp

This year, the 5th CEADs Summer Camp will be held from July 26 to August 5, 2023, at Xianghu Academician Island in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The program will focus on carbon emission accounting, the carbon neutrality technology system, and carbon-neutral transition pathways for emerging economies. Through group activities, participants will also study the transition pathways of different countries, regions, and cities, and explore the socioeconomic impacts of climate change in depth. The program aims to implement the guiding spirit of the dual-carbon strategy and to cultivate professional talent in carbon emission reduction with an international perspective, helping China nurture and build a reserve of young dual-carbon talent.

The CEADs Summer Camp organizing committee will consider applicants' institution, academic background, and capabilities when making admissions decisions. In principle, at least one representative from each institution will be admitted if the applicant's background is relevant, ensuring professionalism, diversity, and interdisciplinarity among participants.
