Background
Achieving the dual-carbon goals is a major strategic decision made by the CPC Central Committee with consideration of both domestic and international priorities. It is an essential choice for addressing prominent resource and environmental constraints and achieving the sustainable development of the Chinese nation. General Secretary Xi Jinping has emphasized that young talent is the source of national strategic talent. China has a large, energetic, and independently minded young generation. They are the new generation entrusted with the mission of national development, the builders and successors of socialism, and the main force that will drive the realization of the dual-carbon goals in the future.
To steadily advance carbon peaking actions and strengthen the insight and leadership capacity of young people in climate mitigation, the China Emission Accounts and Datasets team (CEADs) has brought together experts and scholars to build a training curriculum. The program provides guidance on theories of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality as well as carbon accounting theory and practice, and aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talent with strong professional knowledge and practical ability for the 3060 carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
CEADs has successfully held four summer camps. In 2023, the camp will be held on Xianghu Academy Island in Hangzhou. This summer camp will invite a number of renowned academicians and experts to provide guidance on carbon peaking and carbon neutrality theory and carbon accounting practice through lectures and courses. Participants will also conduct group activities to study dual-carbon transition pathways for different countries, regions, and cities, and will further discuss the socioeconomic impacts of climate change. The event aims to implement the guiding spirit of the dual-carbon strategy, cultivate carbon emission reduction professionals with an international perspective, and help train and reserve young talent for the national dual-carbon agenda.
